Cultural Awareness Program
The United States is known as the melting pot to many immigrants. Despite the recent emphasis on multiculturalism across the U.S., and a resurgent interest in ethnic roots, Polish Americans like other ethnic groups are becoming assimilated more and more, with the end result being loss of culture.
All Equal Foundation’s goal is to ensure that children and individuals of Polish descent remain aware of their culture.
It is evident that today, Polish people have integrated into American society. Even though they are well dispersed throughout the United States, because of the continual assimilation in U.S. society, it has been reported that the historical traditions are diminishing, with it being reported that for Polish Americans, the ability to speak in their native language is less than 5%. In a 1960 survey of children of Polish ethnic leaders, 20 percent reported that they spoke Polish regularly. By 1990, however, the U.S. census reported that only 750,000 Polish Americans spoke Polish in the home.
As individuals become more and more acclimated to American society, heritage preservation becomes increasingly important. The loss of precious traditions has made cultural heritage preservation a priority for All Equal Foundation.
Through established collaborations with organization and individuals focused on Polish heritage and cultural preservation, we will implement a program that will provide instruction on the language, folk tales, dance and music of the Polish culture.
Though the organization is open to all that have an interest in learning Polish traditions, All Equal Foundation aims to promote Polish identity by teaching cultural values relating to Polish culture by:
• Increasing knowledge and understanding of traditional Polish culture among local audiences with a greater focus on featuring and
celebrating cultural diversity and promoting intercultural dialogue through various projects, music, and dance.
• Develop and perpetuate through education, the culture, core values and traditions that have been passed on from generation to generation.
• Encourage Polish families to keep alive the traditions, delicious food, and
all aspects of the rich culture.
